Today the culture of waste recycling requires special attention in our country. One of the tasks of Rusatom Service JSC is address the issue of bad smells, risks of spontaneous combustion at landfills and reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by degassing waste accumulation facilities.
Rusatom Service JSC is ready to invest in the building of landfill gas RES facilities.
Landfill gas directly affects global warming: methane, which makes up ~50% of landfill gas, remains in the atmosphere for about 12 years and contributes to the greenhouse effect. Reducing of methane emissions through extraction of landfill gas and its conversion to energy helps to reduce human impact on the environment, reduce the risk of climate change, improve environmental safety, and ensure public health. 1 MW of electricity based on LFG removes about 14,500 tons of CO2 per year, making it the most efficient of all RES facilities.

Process description
The waste is dumped into the pit in layers, compacted with compactors and covered with a layer of inert materials. After the pit is filled with waste, it is covered with a protective cover. Collection and disposal of SMW landfill gas is provided by the landfill degassing process. To recover landfill gas, a collection system including a network of specially equipped vertical wells, gas pipelines, gas collection stations and a gas treatment system is built.
MW is sorted at the landfill. Waste sorting lines installed at the landfill select recyclable materials (cardboard, paper, all kinds of plastics, metal). After sorting, organic waste is sent to waste biocomposting facility (WBF), which performs fermentation to produce methane.
