Rosatom Career Day for Foreign Graduates of NRNU MEPhI

On February 25, 2021, Rosatom Career Day was held online for foreign students of NRNU MEPhI, who study nuclear specialties in Russia.

The meeting was opened by Natalya Barbashina, vice-rector of NRNU MEPhI, Valery Karezin, director of the international cooperation in nuclear education project of Rosatom State Corporation, Chan Ti Than, president of VINATOM, MEPhI foreign students, participating in the Ambassadors of Russian Nuclear Education project.

More than 150 participants came for the event, including the Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in Russia, Charge d’Affaires of the Bolivian Embassy in Russia, representatives of employers from partner countries: UZATOM, Akkuyu NPP, Belarusian NPP, as well as foreign students from over 20 countries: Zambia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Turkey, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, etc.

The participants of the event pursued several goals.The main one is related to foreign graduates of the Rosatom State Corporation flagship universities further employment in partner countries However, other goals were just as important: ensure an open dialog with potential employers, discuss the possibilities of developing career paths for students within national nuclear projects.

After completing the official part, the participants were divided into working groups by Rosatom State Corporation regions of presence, where representatives of Rusatom Overseas JSC, Atomstroyexport JSC, Rusatom Energy International JSC and Rusatom Service JSC told about the status of the NPP and CNST construction designs implementation, and the employers from partner countries told about the foreign specialists’ employment prospects.

The representatives of Rusatom Service JSC had something to share with the students,due to their great practical experience in the field of nuclear research. Students were excited to learn firsthand about the assessment of nuclear infrastructure personnel recruitment needs in Bangladesh and Egypt. There was also cooperation on the projects in Zambia, Bolivia, Uzbekistan, and other countries. Speaking about the fields of nuclear research, the speakers mentioned a wide range of opportunities for further employment in the industry organizations, highlighting the current programme of cooperation with MEPhI students in the field of nuclear research.

The program coordinator of cooperation with MEPhI on the part of Rusatom Service JSC, Yulia Chernyakhovskaya, deputy director general for Nuclear Infrastructure, associate professor of Industry Economics and Management Department of NRNU MEPhI, Ph.D in Economics, noted,“The history of our active cooperation with MEPhI has been going on for more than a year – during this time, we have managed to carry out high-quality work with foreign students. They were given a unique opportunity to complete a pre-graduate internship in our department, get familiar with the specifics of nuclear research activities, and experience in practice what nuclear infrastructure is. The nuclear infrastructure projects, in which we involve young talents, are designed to maximize their potential, deepen their basic competencies and endow them with new ones.

As a result, most of them are affirmed in their desire to continue developing in this direction, here, in Russia, or in their homeland. This makes us very happy, especially in the context of the industry task of forming a human-centered personnel training system”.
