Rosatom State Corporation and Armenian NPP discussed upgrade works
A working meeting of the NPP management with representatives of Rusatom Service JSC headed by Evgeny Salkov, Director General, was held at Armenian NPP. The Nuclear Safety Committee of Armenia and Armenian Research Institute for NPP Operation (ARMATOM CJSC) also took part in the meeting. The parties analyzed the NPP upgrade works that will take place during the planned preventive maintenance (PPM-2021). The NPP will be shut down for 141 days and key project activities will take place under
PPM-2021 - annealing of Armenian NPP reactor vessel metal and reactor emergency core cooling system upgrade. Upon completion of all planned works the Nuclear Safety Committee of the Republic of Armenia will conduct inspections at the NPP and decide on the issuance of a license for the extension of Armenian NPP lifetime up to 2026. Upgrade works under the contract are arranged by Rusatom Service JSC, member of the electric power division of the Rosatom State Corporation. “Final work on NPP upgrade and safety improvement will take place at the plant this year. Armenia will have more efficient NPP, and its safety will be close to world standards. In addition, the physical and mechanical properties of the reactor vessel will be restored after the annealing and Armenian NPP can be still operated after 2026,” said Evgeny Salkov, Director General of Rusatom Service JSC. The reactor annealing is conducted at all NPPs where power units lifetime is extended. Annealing was conducted at VVER-440 reactors in Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Finland.
