Rosatom International Career day for foreign graduates

On December 10, 2021, the Rosatom International Career Day was held online for foreign students of the State Corporation's flagship universities who study nuclear and related specialties in Russia. (https://mephi.ru/career-day)

The ceremony was opened by the MEPhI Vice-Rector Natalya Barbashina, representative of the Rosatom State Corporation Vera Upirova, Ambassador of Bolivia to Russia Ms. Maria Luiza Ramos, Ambassador of Zambia to Russia Mr. Shadrek Chingembu Luvita, Head of the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Department of the Main Directorate of Nuclear Energy and International Projects of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Mr. Salih Sary, Deputy Director of the Department of Atomic Energy of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Lilia Dulinets.
Over 150 participants, representatives of the Rosatom partner countries, including employers BelEnergo, UZATOM, Akkuyu NPP, Rooppur NPP, nuclear regulators, heads of ministries and departments, as well as foreign students from more than 20 countries of the world - Zambia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Turkey, etc. attended the event.

The event managed to solve several problems, especially, the main one - the discussion of further employment of foreign graduates of nuclear specialties from Russian universities in the Rosatom partner countries. The participants within the working groups on the Rosatom regions of presence, built an open dialogue with potential employers, discussed the possibilities of developing career paths for young specialists in the framework of the implementation of national nuclear projects.

After the official part, participants of the event separated in group discussions by countries. Representatives of Rusatom Overseas JSC, Atomstroyexport JSC, Rusatom Energo International JSC and Rusatom Service JSC spoke about the status of implementation of NPP and CNST construction projects in partner countries, and employers from partner countries shared the prospects for employment of foreign specialists, current requirements and vacancies as well as answered questions to students.
The Nuclear Infrastructure Division of Rusatom Service JSC shared with the participants the results of assessment of the staffing requirements of nuclear infrastructure personnel for key organizations in the nuclear industry in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Zambia and Uzbekistan.

During the discussion of employment prospects in Bangladesh, Dr. Kabir Hossein, Head of Human Resource Management at Rooppur NPP noted the importance of attitude to business in addition to the qualification of a young specialist, and Mr. Arshaful, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh stressed the importance of the NPP project as a dream of the founding father of the country - Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on creating "Shonar Bangla" - the strong and prosperous state with nuclear energy.

As part of the group discussion, Christian Condori Tarki, specialist of the Nuclear Technology Implementation Department of the Bolivian Atomic Energy Agency, spoke at the event. Christian, as the recent graduate of MEPhI, shared his experience of studying in Russia and urged other students to use the knowledge gained for the benefit of developing the national nuclear program of their countries. Furthermore, Dr. Natasha Museba, Chief Lawyer of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Zambia, spoke to the students about the plans for the development of the nuclear program in Zambia and the employment opportunities for graduates upon returning home.

Employers from Uzbekistan, representing the Uzatom Agency and Goskomprombez, spoke about their current activities, plans for the development of organizations and mechanisms for employing candidates.
Regarding the key organizations of nuclear infrastructure in the context of the nuclear projects needs, the speakers recalled a wide range of opportunities for further employment of foreign students in industry organizations, emphasizing the importance of the proactive position of students and alumni themselves as the future atomic elite in the partner countries of Rosatom.
