International Training Course on Engaging Industry in Nuclear Program Started in Saint Petersburg

On September 13, on Rosatom Technical Academy premises, an educational course on engaging industry in nuclear power programs started. The course was sponsored by IAEA, and the agency's specialists were engaged. The organizers were to familiarize participants with best practices in attracting industrial sector to developing new nuclear power program and discuss experience of other IAEA member states.

The event became an important platform for both representatives of the countries planning or developing their nuclear power programs and representatives of the industry considering their participation in supply chain during constructing nuclear plants in their countries.

During the first day of the event, Dmitriy Korolkov, a talent of Expert Department for Nuclear Infrastructure, Rusatom Service, JSC, presented his report on How to Overcome Nuclear Infrastructure Challenges That Local Suppliers Face during NPPConstruction. He talked about major participants of material, equipment, and services localization process regarding NPP under construction, as well as strategies of engaging local industry, and events, held for attracting local suppliers. Dmitriy emphasized good practices for NPP international projects in localization and their significance for further development of nuclear power program.

“Engagement of local suppliers in NPP construction projects in various formats — both via direct participation and via creation of joint ventures with supplier-country businesses — is crucial to successful implementation of the project, besides, it offers a significant incentive for the nation's economic development and cultivation of new industries,” the speaker says.

The representatives of IAEA and talents of relevant state bodies from across Armenia, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Morocco, and Uzbekistan, just to name a few, came to participate in the event and discuss the challenges for local suppliers.
