The CIS Nuclear Infrastructure Basic Organization held an online seminar for CIS member states
It discussed the formation of a comprehensive law on the nuclear energy use and the conventions requirements
An online seminar was held on April 12, 2024 regarding the formation of a comprehensive law on the nuclear energy use and the conventions requirements in the field of nuclear energy use. The seminar was organized by the Basic Organization for the Development of National Nuclear Infrastructures in the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), whose functions are performed by Rusatom Service JSC.
The seminar was attended by heads and experts of relevant ministries and departments, scientific organizations of the CIS member states.
The seminar was aimed to implement the Program for the Development of National Nuclear Infrastructures approved during the 24th meeting of the CIS Member States Commission on the peaceful nuclear energy use and to exchange experience in the formation of the regulatory framework for nuclear energy use projects. The participants were familiarized during the seminar with IAEA recommendations and requirements of international conventions in the field of nuclear energy use, as well as with various issues related to development of legal framework for large-capacity and small-capacity NPP projects. In particular, representatives of the Federal Service for Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision (Rostechnadzor, the Russian Federation), the Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (Gosatomnadzor, the Republic of Belarus) and the State Committee for Industrial Safety (Goskomprombez, the Republic of Uzbekistan) shared their experience in developing the regulatory infrastructure for nuclear and radiation safety, licensing and supervisory activities.
The seminar was moderated by Julia Chernyakhovskaya, Deputy Director of Rusatom Service JSC branch in Hungary for training personnel and nuclear infrastructure, who noted in her opening speech that “the Basic Organization for the Development of National Nuclear Infrastructures in CIS member states is a good practice to create regional cooperation in the field of nuclear infrastructure, promoting the exchange of accumulated experience”.
The CIS Economic Council decided on December 8, 2023 to give Rusatom Service JSC the status of the basic organization of the CIS member states on the development of national nuclear infrastructures. The activities of Rusatom Service JSC, as a base organization, are aimed to develop proposals and provide information, consulting and methodological assistance to CIS bodies, agencies and organizations to solve the tasks of the Program for the Development of National Nuclear Infrastructures of CIS Member States and the action plan.
