Rosatom and the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic agreed to build small HPP

The corresponding Agreement was signed at ATOMEXPO-2024.

The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the country office of Rosatom State Corporation in the Kyrgyz Republic expanded cooperation on green agenda by signing the Agreement on the development and implementation of small hydropower industry projects in the country on March 23 within the XIII International Forum ATOMEXPO-2024 held at the Sirius University of Science and Technology (Sochi).

The Contract was signed on behalf of Rusatom Service JSC by Evgeny Salkov, General Director; on behalf of the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic by Taalaibek Ibraev, Minister of Energy; and on behalf of the country office of Rosatom State Corporation in Kyrgyzstan by Dmitry Konstantinov, General Director.

The Parties agreed to work together to develop and implement an investment project to build small hydropower facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic with a capacity of up to 400 MW. The Agreement provides for mutually beneficial partnership to build some hydropower plants in different regions of the Kyrgyz Republic: Talas, Jalal-Abad, Batken and others.

Together with Rosatom in-depth expertise, it becomes possible not only to build environmentally friendly energy sources, but also to create sustainable infrastructure and decent jobs in the region” said Evgeny Salkov, General Director of Rusatom Service JSC.

“There is a favorable environment and conditions for international investment in hydropower projects in the Kyrgyz Republic. It is confident that Rosatom's serious long-term plans related to investments in the Kyrgyz Republic will serve as the right message for domestic investors as well. Investments in the hydropower sector in the Kyrgyz Republic are profitable and reliable investments, and the Government of the Republic will continue to support the construction of new HPP projects at all levels" said Taalaibek Ibraev, Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The core of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation is Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, the country's largest generating company and a leader in the production of green electricity.
