Rosatom ensures safe operation of Tianwan NPP reactor plant (China)

26.03.2024

The corresponding agreement was signed at ATOMEXPO-2024

Within the framework of the XIII International Forum ATOMEXPO-2024 held at Sirius University of Science and Technology on March 26, Rusatom Service JSC (part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation) and Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC, China) expanded their cooperation on maintenance of Tianwan NPP.

The Contract was signed on behalf of Rusatom Service JSC by Evgeny Salkov, General Director; the Chinese side was represented by Zhang Yi, Chairman of JNPC Board of Directors. The document was signed in the presence of Kirill Komarov, First Deputy General Director and Director of the Development and International Business Unit of Rosatom State Corporation, and Shen Yanfeng, Deputy General Director of China State Nuclear Industry Corporation (CNNC).

The Parties concluded the Contract to perform works on cutting and removal of surveillance specimens from the reactor vessel of Power Units No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 of the plant. The signed Contract will ensure NPP safe operation through timely monitoring of the reactor plant condition.

“We highly value our long-term partnership with Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation. The reactor plant is one of the key components of any nuclear power plant, its “heart”. Rosatom's nuclear technologies allow the Tianwan NPP heart to beat smoothly, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the whole plant” commented Evgeny Salkov, General Director of Rusatom Service JSC.

After completion of Tianwan NPP Power Units construction and put them into operation to the Customer, Rusatom Service JSC will continue to provide technical services to support their operation.

For reference:

Surveillance specimens are specimens made of identical metal to the reactor vessel. Part of the specimens are loaded into the reactor as part of the commissioning and kept under operating conditions. Throughout the reactor plant lifetime, the witness specimens are subject to periodic unloading to be examined - thus the monitoring of changes in the structure and metal properties during operation is warranted.

The core of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation is Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, the country's largest generating company and a leader in the production of green electricity. Rosenergoatom Concern includes 11 operating NPP as branches, 36 power units (including the floating power unit (FPU) of FNPP consisting of two reactor plants) with a total installed capacity of over 28.5 GW. The share of nuclear generation today is about 20% of the total electricity generation in the country. Thus, every fifth light bulb in the Russian Federation burns from energy generated by nuclear power plants.

Rusatom Service JSC is a member of the Electric Power division of Rosatom State Corporation. The company provides services to energy facilities in various sectors of the energy industry. The company is present in almost every country with operating VVER NPP outside Russia. The geography of Rusatom Service JSC projects covers more than 15 countries around the world: from Europe to Asia. The references of Rusatom Service JSC include comprehensive projects for life extension, maintenance and repair, supply of equipment and spares, nuclear infrastructure, consulting services and training. Since 2022, the company has been actively developing the areas of renewable energy: small hydropower, biogas reactors, landfill gas. The BOOТ (build-own-operate-trade) model is implemented as a priority. Rusatom Service JSC references in the renewable energy sector include the design of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants in Bulgaria, HPP for an isolated power consumer in Kyrgyzstan and the supply of equipment for the Segozerskaya HPP in Karelia. In the near future, the company also plans to take the position of a key business participant in the construction of high-capacity bioreactors, implementing a development strategy using “green energy”. As part of the Robotics, the company offers services for the design and manufacture of robotic systems and other non-standard equipment for nuclear industry enterprises and beyond. www.rusatomservice.ru

Rosatom's engineering division within the framework of Tianwan NPP Power Units No. 7 and No. 8 construction project designs and supplies documentation and equipment for the “nuclear island” and provides related services (author's supervision, supervised installation, supervised adjustment ) to the Customer.

The International Forum ATOMEXPO, organized with the support of Rosatom State Corporation, has been taking place since 2009. This is the largest business and exhibition platform where heads of leading industry companies and leading experts discuss the tasks of nuclear technology development, strengthen partnerships and exchange best practices. The forum format includes an exhibition and an extensive business program, which traditionally focuses on the development of nuclear power as a clean energy source; human asset management; creation of nuclear power infrastructure; financing and investment in the energy industry; development of non-energy nuclear technologies and many others. The forum is hosted by Atomexpo LLC.

Russia is actively developing cooperation with all interested countries. The large international projects are being implemented. Rosatom and its divisions take an active part in this work.
