Cooperation of CIS countries in peaceful uses of atomic energy was discussed in Minsk

The 24th meeting of the CIS Member States Commission on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy was held in Minsk, Republic of Belarus, from November 28 to 30, 2023. A meeting of the Council of Representatives of the Governing Level of Safety Regulatory Bodies in the Use of Atomic Energy of the CIS Member States was held within the framework of the event.

The Commission members considered the issues of bringing nuclear heritage facilities to a safe condition, the progress of the scientific research program at the Kazakhstan tokamak, emergency readiness, public acceptability and personnel training. Rusatom Service JSC presented a progress report on the implementation of the Program to Develop the National Nuclear Infrastructures of the CIS Member States and the Action Plan for its implementation, approved by the decision of the CIS Economic Council of December 2, 2022.

The Program is aimed to define the main principles, tasks in the field of nuclear infrastructure, priority areas of their implementation and to carry out joint and national work on the development of nuclear infrastructure in the territories of the CIS member states to ensure safe and effective implementation of national programs for the peaceful use of nuclear technologies. As part of the Program, during 2023 Rusatom Service JSC held a seminar for representatives of ministries, agencies and organizations of CIS member states in the field of safety culture and analysis of nuclear infrastructure development areas in the CIS.

As a result of the report, the Commission members approved the work plan of Rusatom Service JSC for the next year, aimed to develop the competencies and capacity of nuclear infrastructure in the development areas identified based on the results of the analysis.

In addition, the meeting approved a set of measures to improve safety culture in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy. It was developed to implement the Programme and is designed to provide a methodological framework for the safety culture and leadership development in CIS member organizations, including regulatory bodies and organizations responsible for nuclear and radiation safety, in order to maintain and improve the organizations' characteristics indicating that safety issues are given the highest priority.

Rusatom Service JSC references in the renewable energy sector include the design of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants in Bulgaria, the supply of equipment for the Segozerskaya HPP in Karelia. In the near future the company also plans to become a key business player in the construction of high capacity bioreactors, implementing the development strategy of Rosatom State Corporation using green energy.

As part of the Robotics, the company offers services for the design and manufacture of robotic systems and other non-standard equipment for nuclear industry enterprises and beyond.

Engineering and Technology Center GET JSC (part of Rusatom Service JSC) is a leader in the simulation engineering and mathematical modeling for NPP and TPP. The company’s scope of activities includes testing of process algorithms of the designed power units, research of human-machine interface, development of support systems for NPP operating personnel in emergencies.
